A return to the pleasure gardens

On the first Saturday of the festival, come for a jaunt around the Ranelagh Gardens, where you will be serenaded by Baroque opera singers from Baroque Specialists Opera Antiqua and kept entertained by musicians and dancers of every sort from the Leeson Park school of Music. There will be plenty to enrich the mind body and soul, as tai chi workshops will be running throughout the afternoon.

Students from Young Dramatic Arts Theatre Company will hold a outdoor performance of Alan Ayckbourns play ''a talk in the park'' at 2.30 pm as part of the days proceedings. The afternoon will come to its climax at 4pm when we will have the Official Opening of the festival. So don’t miss out on this wonderful start to the festival proceedings!

The Land Of Sheba

The Land of Sheba exhibition is a beautiful and haunting exhibition, featuring the works of esteemed artists from the Yemen, Ahmad Ameen, Amna A’l Nasairi and Mazher Nizar, Inspired by their beautiful and mysterious country, this is a unique and breathtaking exhibition from three wonderful artists.

Be sure to watch out for the many pieces of art in the windows and shops of Ranelagh during the Festival. Many local and accomplished artists will be exhibiting their art. Watch out for art in surprising places as you stroll around Ranelagh. Most pieces are for sale, please contact the Ranelagh Arts Centre to purchase any of the art pieces.

The Emilie Conway Jazz Quartet

Time: 7.30pm, Saturday 15th

Emilie Conway, a Dublin born jazz singer whose stage debut was an impromptu session with Jon Hendricks and Kurt Elling in a Chicago club in 1999, is possessed of a set of air freshener tones and uses them to very adroit affect on this collection of jazz standards (everything from Michel Legrand to Cole Porter with one original thrown in). But she’s not the only performer to impress – pianist Johnny Taylor also plays a blinder. She will be singing from her recently released debut album “The Secret of a Rose”

Contemporary Art Exhibition

This year, the Ranelagh Arts Festival is holding its first exhibition of contemporary visual art. This is an open exhibition and features painting, photography, installation and sculpture from a range of Irish and international artists the exhibition will be open daily throughout the festival from 12-7pm at the (market venue, Ranelagh Village) Opening the exhibition on Saturday 15th September will be Robert Ballagh, and there will be music from The Emilie Conway Jazz Trio”: doors open from 6pm.

Having celebrated their 25th anniversary, Altan begin a new chapter with their latest album released worldwide on Compass Records March 2012. With Over 25 years of playing together, Altan have established themselves as one of the most important live acts to play traditional Irish music in Ireland and on the World stage. The Boston Globe has described them as “The hottest group in the Celtic realm!” Altan have toured all over the USA and Europe.  We are delighted to have them at this years festival and it promises to be a wonderful evening.  Special guests will include - Liam O Maonlai and Triona Marshall from the chieftains

Kids cycling tour of the Grand Canal

Time: 1pm, Sunday 16th

Location: Meet Outside the Arts Centre


The tour will be led by several of Ranelagh’s cycling enthusiasts, and will go along the newly opened cycle path alongside the Grand Canal.There will be special talks on the way about the flora and fauna of the canal and it will be a wonderful way for children to experience this great natural space in the middle of the city.Mums and Dads are welcome too!

Family picnic, Ranelagh Gardens

The gardens will be alive this Sunday for a wonderful family picnic, there will be clowns, giant games, face painting, music and much more. Students from  Independent Theatre Workshops will hold a outdoor performance of Alan Ayckbourns play '’Alice in Wonderland'' at 2.30 pm as part of the days proceedings. Come along and enjoy the outdoor entertainment, while enjoying the natural beauty of the gardens.
